A 63-year-old St. Louis man who recently was found slumped behind the wheel of a car outside Rockport Heights Elementary School in Arnold was arrested for suspicion of driving while intoxicated. The man was at the school to pick up a student, Arnold Police reported.
An officer was called at about 3:50 p.m. Jan. 24 to the school, 3871 Jeffco Blvd., after the man appeared to be unconscious inside a 2019 Chevrolet Cruze stopped in the student-pickup line. When the officer arrived and approached the car, the man allegedly got out of it, put his hands in the air and said, “I’m drunk.” The officer also allegedly saw numerous small, empty alcohol bottles in the car, the report said.
The officer called Rock Township Ambulance District to the scene to examine the man, and the ambulance district employee told police the man could be taken to the Arnold Police Station. The man was arrested and transported to the station, where he allegedly registered a .265 percent blood-alcohol content, more than three times the legal limit, which is .08 percent in Missouri, according to the report.
At the station, the man allegedly threatened to harm himself, and an officer took him to Mercy Hospital South in south St. Louis County for further evaluation. The man also was issued summonses to appear in Arnold Municipal Court for DWI and driving with expired license plates, Cpl. Brett Ackermann said.
