Eureka Police patch

Eureka Police arrested a 71-year-old Pacific man for suspicion of driving while intoxicated after the man was allegedly seen urinating in the parking lot and carrying a beer can before entering the Schnucks grocery store, 245 E. Fifth St., police reported.

A woman called police at about 3:15 p.m. Jan. 25 that a man had parked a silver 2011 Buick LaCrosse outside the store. She said she saw the man relieve himself while standing next to the car and walked toward the store with the beer can, the report said.

When officers arrived, they allegedly saw a puddle near the LaCrosse, and they found a beer can in a trash can just inside the store’s entrance. The officers then saw the man leaving the store, and he allegedly told them he had drank two beers before coming to the store, according to the report.

He also allegedly admitted to urinating in the parking lot, the report said.

The man refused to perform field sobriety tests and was arrested. He was taken to the Police Station, where he was booked and released to a sober driver, according to the report.

He was issued a summons to appear in Eureka Municipal Court for alleged DWI, Lt. Michael Tapp said.
