A 21-year-old Imperial man allegedly sped away from a Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office deputy who was attempting to stop the man for a traffic violation on the West Outer Road near Miller Road just south of Arnold. The Sheriff’s Office has identified the man and is seeking a charge for felony fleeing from law enforcement, Capt. Matt Moore said.

The man was driving a maroon Ford Taurus at about 11:50 a.m. May 1 on the West Outer Road when a deputy allegedly saw him enter the wrong lane to pass another vehicle before reentering the correct lane. When the deputy turned on his cruiser’s lights and sirens, the man driving the Taurus allegedly sped away, using the turn lane to pass other vehicles on the road, the report said.

The deputy last saw the man drive onto the northbound I-55 on ramp from Richardson Road in Arnold. The deputy did not follow the Taraus onto the interstate, according to the report.

The deputy was able to read the license on the car, and he discovered it was registered to a different vehicle. The deputy went to the Imperial home that was associated with the license plate, and he learned the man driving the car worked in Arnold, the report said.

The deputy went to business the man worked at in the 2000 block of Michigan Avenue, where he saw the Taurus. The deputy then viewed surveillance video that allegedly showed the man driving the car to the business, according to the report.

The Sheriff’s Office is seeking a charge against the man through the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for felony aggravated fleeing a stop of detention of a motor vehicle, Moore said.

He also said the man who allegedly fled from the deputy had not been arrested as of May 9.
