Crystal City Fire quickly put out a small kitchen fire at Kettelhut’s Smokehouse restaurant, 1267 N. Truman Blvd., in Crystal City on Monday night, Oct. 14. No one was injured, Chief Tony Bova said.
The Crystal City Fire Department received a call about the fire at 9:05 p.m. Upon arrival, firefighters found a prep table on fire, Bova said.
“We pushed the table outside (and extinguished the fire),” he said. “It only took a few minutes to put out. I would say any damage was to the prep table.”
Bova said the cause of the fire was determined to be “electrical.”
The restaurant closed afterward for cleanup and reopened today, Oct. 16, according to a post on the Kettelhut Smokehouse Facebook page.
The Facebook post also said the fire damage was “minimal.”
Bova said firefighters remained on the scene for about 30 minutes.
He said the business owner was the only one in the building at the time of the fire, and it was fortunate he was there because the restaurant is closed on Mondays.
“The owner happened to go in to do work and he called in the fire,” Bova said.
The Festus and Herculaneum fire departments and the Dunklin and Jefferson R-7 fire protection districts helped with the call, and the Joachim-Plattin Ambulance District also responded to the scene, he said.
