jcso 2 children dead 5-28-24

Investigators search a Mazda SUV that was driven this morning to Festus City Hall and Police Station on Tuesday morning by a woman who allegedly told officers she killed two of her children.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an early-morning shooting in the 1400 block of Corisande Hills Road in the Jefferson County portion of Fenton, south of George Winter Park and near the Meramec River. One teenage boy involved in the incident was shot in the head, Capt. Nic Forler said.

Deputies were called at about 2 a.m. today, July 25, after gunshots were heard in the area. When they arrived, there were four teenagers at the scene, and one had been struck in the head by a bullet, the Sheriff’s Office reported.

The teen who had been shot was transported to an area hospital with a non-life-threatening injury. He was treated and released at the hospital, Forler said.

The teenagers told investigators they had been robbed, and at least one person shot at them multiple times. The Sheriff’s Office is not releasing the teens’ ages and hometowns, but Forler said they were between the ages of 16 and 18 and from Jefferson County.

The Sheriff’s Office is investigating what led to the shooting. Forler said investigators are searching for suspects, but as of this morning, no arrests had been made.

“We believe this was not a random act, and there is no need for concern for the general public,” Forler said.

He asks anyone with information about the shooting to call the Sheriff’s Office at 636-797-5515.
