A man cut himself badly while reportedly breaking a glass window to get inside the Second Baptist Church in Festus and lost a lot of blood before emergency personnel arrived and transported him to an area hospital. The man allegedly said he broke into the church because he wanted to talk to God, Festus Police Chief Tim Lewis said.
He said Festus Police got a call at approximately 6:50 a.m. July 31 about the man inside the church.
“A 29-year-old Imperial man broke out a window and was inside bleeding heavily,” Lewis said. “When officers arrived, his parents were below the window talking to him. He was having some kind of problem.
“We could follow the blood trail inside the church. His parents said he’d had mental issues. His mother said he’d called them and told them he’d come to the church to talk to God.”
Lewis said he didn’t know the severity of the man’s injuries, but he was taken by ambulance to Mercy Hospital South in south St. Louis County for the wounds to be treated.
