Imperial home damaged by fire

A fire damaged a home in the 5300 block of Fischer Way in Imperial. The blaze started in an indoor jacuzzi room at the back of the house, the Antonia Fire Protection District reported.

Antonia Fire was called at 2:22 p.m. Nov. 24. While responding, firefighters were told a resident was varnishing furniture in the home, but that was not reported as the cause of the fire, Deputy Chief Bobby Chrisco said.

The first firetruck arrived at 2:30 p.m., and firefighters saw light smoke coming from the front of the house. Firefighters walked around the house, and they saw fire through a window of the back room. The fire was under control at 3:02 p.m., according to the report.

The cause of the fire had not been determined as of Monday, Nov. 27, and the state fire marshal is handling the investigation, Chrisco said.

No one was injured in the fire, and only one person was home when the blaze started, the report said.

Chrisco said the residents declined assistance from the Red Cross, but they will not be able to live at the home until repairs are completed. He said the residents said they would stay with family members.

Chrisco said the fire destroyed the room it started in, but the rest of the home had minimal damage which was caused mainly by smoke.

The Saline Valley and High Ridge fire protection districts assisted on the call. Rock Township Ambulance District also responded to the home.
