A 35-year-old House Springs man was arrested for allegedly stealing 500 feet of copper cable and damaging a fence. The cable belonged to AT&T, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office reported.
The man allegedly damaged a chain-link fence around an AT&T building in the 2900 block of High Ridge Boulevard in House Springs and stole the cable at about 5:10 a.m. May 6. The damage to the fence was estimated at about $1,000, and the cable was valued at about $500, the report said.
On May 9, deputies found the man at his home on East Lakeview Drive in High Springs, as well as the cable. It appeared the man had burned the plastic coating on the cable to get to the copper, according to the report.
The man was arrested and released at his home, pending application for warrants. The Sheriff’s Office will seek charges against the man through the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for stealing and property damage, spokesman Grant Bissell said.
