Hillsboro High School was evacuated for more than an hour and a half this morning, May 13, after a message about a bomb threat was discovered in one of the restrooms. After law enforcement officers, including a K-9 unit, thoroughly searched the school, the threat was determined not credible, authorities reported.
The school, 123 Leon Hall Parkway, was evacuated at about 7:40 a.m., right after the message was discovered, and people were allowed back into the building at 9 a.m., Hillsboro Superintendent Jon Isaacson said.
“Our students (waited) in between (Hillsboro Primary School, 101 Leon Hall Parkway) and the high school during the evacuation,” Isaacson said.
He said the incident is under investigation.
“Our administrators are reviewing surveillance footage to find the individual or individuals responsible for this,” Isaacson said.
The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office also is investigating the threat, spokesman Grant Bissell said.
“We are incredibly proud and thankful for the cooperation shown by all students, faculty and staff,” Isaacson said. “They seamlessly followed district procedures to ensure everyone’s safety.”
He also thanked the Sheriff’s Office, Hillsboro Police Department, St. Louis County Police Department and National Geospatial Agency, which provided a K-9 unit, for their help to search the high school.
