Two firefighters were injured Jan. 20 when they fell while working during icy conditions at the scene of a fire that damaged a storage building in the 6500 block of Walnut Valley Lane in High Ridge. No one was inside the building when it caught fire, High Ridge Fire Protection District Chief John Barton said.

He said the firefighters sustained moderate injuries.

Firefighters were dispatched at 9:28 a.m., and the first crew arrived on the scene five minutes later, he said.

“(The first unit) reported heavy smoke coming from the roof of what appeared to be a single-story residence that was converted into a storage building,” Barton said. “Firefighters began fire attack and were able to quickly extinguish the fire inside the structure.”

The scene was under control by 10 a.m., Barton said.

He said the fire district’s fire marshal determined the fire was accidental and caused by an electrical problem in the building’s attic.

The Fenton and Goldman fire protection districts helped with the call. The North Jefferson County Ambulance District also responded to the scene.
