High Ridge horse stable destroyed in fire

A horse stable at the 2500 block of Little Antire Road in High Ridge was engulfed in flames on Friday, March 14.

A horse stable in the 2500 block of Little Antire Road in High Ridge was destroyed in an electrical fire on March 14.

The High Ridge Fire Protection District arrived at the scene at 6:40 p.m., before storms hit with full force later that evening, said Chief John Barton.

“When (crews) arrived on the scene, they found a large horse stable/barn that was fully engulfed with flames,” Barton said. “There were power lines down along the driveway leading up to the side of the building where another utility pole was knocked over, which we believe was caused by high winds, and was the cause of the fire.”

Barton said no injuries were reported. He said there were no animals on the property at the time of the fire.

The fire was extinguished, and the last crew left the scene at 9:19 p.m., Barton said.

Herculaneum and Festus fire departments and Hillsboro, Mapaville and Rock Community fire protection districts assisted at the scene. North Jefferson County Ambulance District also assisted.
