Two handguns and other items recently were stolen from a garage in the 2100 block of Windswept Estates in the Imperial area. The burglary happened between 3:30 a.m. and 9 a.m. Sept. 25, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office reports.
The garage had inadvertently been left open and someone went inside and stole a backpack, with the words "National Guard" on it, off a hook on the wall. The backpack was filled with emergency supplies, the report said.
In addition, the culprit got inside an unlocked vehicle that was parked in the garage and stole two handguns from it – a Ruger .22 semiautomatic and a Ruger .380 semiautomatic. Altogether, the stolen items were valued at $685, according to the report.
The stolen items had not been recovered, and there were no suspects or arrests as of Sept. 29, Lt. Gary Higginbotham said. He urges anyone with information about the theft to call the Sheriff’s Office tip line at 636-797-5515.
