The gas tank on a 1999 Ford E-450 was cut and about 27 gallons of gas were stolen from the van while it was parked outside the Victorian Gardens retirement community, 15 Hilltop Village Center Drive, in Eureka. The van belongs to the retirement community, Eureka Police reported.
An employee contacted police at approximately 11:20 a.m. Feb. 2 about the incident. He said the van’s gas tank had been about three-quarters full when he last drove it on Feb. 1 and no one else drives the van, the report said.
The employee told the officer he had started the van at about 11 a.m. and noticed the gas tank was nearly empty. He drove to a nearby gas station, and when he started pumping fuel into the van, the gas began to spill out from under it. A small circular cut was found on the van’s gas tank, the report said.
As of Feb. 9, no suspects had been identified, Lt. Michael Werges said. Anyone with information about the incident should call Eureka Police at 636-938-6600.
