Two High Ridge residents are temporarily without a home following a fire Sunday morning (Jan. 8) that started in a flue at their house in the 3100 block of Richard Drive.
The two adults were home when the fire broke out, and they both escaped without incident, said Chief Mike Arnhart of the High Ridge Fire Protection District.
At 4:39 a.m., High Ridge Fire got a call about the blaze at the home, which is in the Richard Heights neighborhood.
“I’m not sure what alerted them to the fire,” Arnhart said.
Firefighters arrived within five minutes and found that the fire had already spread from the flue into the attic. They spent the next hour and a half on the scene in single-digit temperatures putting out the fire, Arnhart said.
“There was extensive damage throughout the home and it’s not able to be occupied,” he said.
The family will have to make repairs before they are able to return home, Arnhart added.
Firefighters from the Fenton Fire Protection District assisted with the call, he said.
