Two adults and three children have been displaced after a fire destroyed a home on Chinaberry Court, which is in a subdivision off Jeffco Boulevard south of Arnold, according to the Rock Community Fire Protection District.
Rock Fire was dispatched at 11:06 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27, and the first fire truck arrived at 11:11 a.m. The fire was under control at 12:07 p.m., and the first truck was cleared at 3:41 p.m., spokeswoman Alyson Rotter said.
She said no one was home when the fire started, and no one was injured by the blaze.
Rotter also said the cause of the fire or where it started in the home was not known as of Wednesday, Jan. 28. She said Rock Fire was still investigating the fire, but investigators do not believe it was suspicious.
Rotter said there were flames visible through the roof when firefighters arrived. She said the cold temperatures and snow did not hinder the response to the fire, but the conditions did make it difficult to clear the scene.
“The snow was an obstacle for our trucks,” she said. “The clear time is a big gap for us. We had some difficulty getting out of the snow. A good Samaritan came out with a plow on a tractor to help remove some snow, so the truck could get out. We got there just fine, but getting out, we had some hurdles.”
Rotter said the Red Cross was contacted to help the five people displaced by the fire.
The Antonia and Dunklin fire protection districts assisted, and the Rock Township Ambulance District responded to the home.
