Fire demolishes vacant Dittmer mobile home

Cedar Hill Fire Protection District put out a house fire at the 6900 block of Deer Run Road in Dittmer on Monday, July 1.

Cedar Hill Fire Protection District crews put out a fire on Monday, July 1 that demolished a vacant mobile home in the 6900 block of Deer Run Road in Dittmer.

Assistant Fire Chief David Jones said crews arrived on the scene at 8:19 p.m., and the fire was under control about 15 minutes later.

“(The mobile home) had fire showing on three sides when we got there, coming out of the windows and door on the backside,” Jones said. “There wasn’t a lot of content inside the building, so there wasn’t a lot of what we call a fire load. There weren’t a lot of belongings.”

Jones said the cause of the fire was ruled undetermined. The property owners were not present at the time of the fire. No injuries were reported, Jones said.

“There was no electricity to the home, but it was vacant and unsecured, with the windows open,” Jones said. “Anything could have happened. It’s hard to say whether it was somebody who intentionally set it on fire, or someone setting off fireworks randomly – we don’t know.”

High Ridge Fire Protection District and the Big River Ambulance District assisted on the scene. Hillsboro Fire Protection District staffed the Cedar Hill Fire Station 1 in case the district received another call while crews were fighting the Dittmer fire, Jones said.
