A fire moderately damaged what appeared to be an abandoned home in the 5600 block of Hwy. 61-67 south of Arnold, Rock Community Fire Protection District spokeswoman Alyson Rotter said.
The district was called at about 10 a.m. Thursday, July 16, to the home by numerous people who passed the house and reported seeing smoke, Rotter said.
She said the first fire truck arrived at 10:05 a.m., and the fire was under control at about 10:10 a.m. Firefighters ventilated the home by removing windows and creating a hole in the roof, the report said.
Rotter said Rock Fire was still investigating the cause of the fire on Friday, July 17. She also said it did not appear the fire was set intentionally and was likely caused by an accident.
Rotter said no firefighters were injured.
The Antonia, Dunklin, Mehlville and Saline Valley fire protection districts assisted on the call. The Rock Township Ambulance District and Arnold Police also responded to the home.
