A fire at the MetalTek-Carondelet Division building, 8600 Commercial Blvd., in Pevely on Thursday (Sept. 16) damaged the building and some equipment. Employees were working a shift at the time and none were injured, said Chief Brad Williams of the Dunklin Protection District.
“It was in their production area,” Williams said. “They make metal casts. There’s quite a bit of damage to the roof of the building. They’ll be out of production a couple days with the roof damage. Also, some machinery was damaged during the fire.”
He said Dunklin Fire got a call at 4:38 a.m. about the blaze, and a second alarm was raised because it was a fire at an industrial operation. As a result, firefighting crews from all around the area responded.
“I believe we had one or two trucks from every fire district and department in Jefferson County and a ladder truck from Mehlville,” Williams said.
Firefighters remained on the scene until about noon, he said.
“A cause had not been determined at this time,” Williams said Thursday. “We believe it to be accidental.”
