This home on Huber Street in Festus recently was damaged by fire.

A fire at a home in the 800 block of Huber Street in Festus displaced two residents. One of the residents was home when the fire started but got out of the house unharmed, said Travis Wood, public information officer for the Festus Fire Department.

The department received a call about the fire at 3:05 p.m. Feb. 12, Wood said.

“There was heavy smoke coming from the eaves when crews arrived,” he said. “The crew entered from the rear of the building. The fire was mainly upstairs and in a bedroom downstairs.

“The damage was limited to the downstairs bedroom and the loft area. The occupants are displaced due to the damages to the house.”

Wood said the Red Cross was contacted to assist the residents.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, he said.

Firefighters were on the scene for about two hours, Wood said.

The Crystal City and Herculaneum fire departments and the Jefferson R-7, Dunklin and Rock Community fire protection districts helped with the call, he said.
