A fire at a home on Pleasant Heights Drive south of Festus was quickly extinguished early Monday morning (March 18), said Chuck Boyer, spokesman for the Festus Fire Department.

The incident occurred about 4 a.m.

“We received a call for a fire in a kitchen,” Boyer said. “One woman and her cat evacuated. Our crew went in and found a small fire in the wall at an electrical outlet in the kitchen. It burned the wall, but they put it out pretty fast. We were on scene a total of 1 and a half hours.”

He said no one was injured.

Boyer said the damage to the house was minimal and the woman who lives in the home may continue staying there.

The Crystal City Fire Department and the Hematite and Jefferson R-7 fire protection districts helped with the call, while the Herculaneum Fire Department moved up to cover the Festus station.
