Festus firefighters responded to a call this afternoon about a gas smell at Home Depot.

The Festus Fire Department was still at Home Depot, 1131 W. Gannon Drive, around 5 p.m. today (Feb. 14) after responding to a call at 4:20 p.m. about a gas smell at the store.

Festus Fire Chief Kevin Cremer said the natural gas smell was confined to just one section of the store. He said store managers were in the process of clearing people from the building when firefighters arrived, but they determined it was safe to allow employees and customers to return to the building, except for the area where the natural gas smell could be detected.

Cremer said the Spire natural gas company was notified to further investigate the gas smell.
