Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office investigators allege a 34-year-old Fenton man stole another man’s car in the Fenton area and then items from that man’s storage locker at an Imperial facility. The stolen car was recovered and returned to the owner, authorities reported.

A man called the Sheriff’s Office on Nov. 25 to report items that were stolen from his locker at the Imperial Self Storage, 6645 Hwy. 61, in Imperial. The man told deputies several pairs of Nike Jordan-brand shoes, a football helmet, crossbow, furniture and two bags of clothes were stolen, the report said.

The man also said his 2010 Dodge Charger had broken down between Nov. 14-21 while he was driving south on Hwy. 141 near Fielder Lane. He said the car was stolen from the side of the highway where he left it, and that his access code to the storage facility and key to his locker were in the car, according to the report.

Deputies reported the man did not say why he had not previously reported the stolen car.

According to the report, surveillance video shows a man on Nov. 20 using the alleged victim’s code to enter the storage facility and later the man’s key to open the storage locker. A review of access codes used confirmed the alleged victim’s code was used at the gate.

Investigators recovered the Charger on Nov. 26 in Fenton, the report said.

As of Dec. 12, the stolen items had not been recovered. The Sheriff’s Office did not provide an estimated value for the stolen items.

Spokesman Grant Bissell said the Sheriff’s Office is seeking charges against the Fenton man for burglary and stealing a motor vehicle. The man had not been arrested as of Dec. 12.
