Arnold Police recently arrested a 38-year-old Fenton man wanted on outstanding warrants and then allegedly found methamphetamine in the pickup he had been driving. The man allegedly tried to prevent officers from getting access to the pickup before he was arrested, police reported.
At about 10:40 p.m. Feb. 9, officers stopped a 1999 Ford pickup near the intersection of Vogel and the West Outer roads. The pickup was stopped because it had an expired temporary tag, the report said.
Officers discovered the man was wanted on warrants from the Pevely Police and St. Louis County Police departments for misdemeanor traffic violations and told him to get out of the pickup so they could arrest him. He quickly got out of the pickup but then allegedly shut the door and locked the keys inside it, according to the report.
The man was taken to the Arnold Police Station, where he was booked and held for one of the other law enforcement agencies, and the pickup was towed. A police dog indicated there might be illegal drugs in the pickup, and officers searched it and allegedly found a small amount of meth in a bag between the driver’s seat and center console, Arnold Police reported.
Depending on results of the drug analysis, Arnold Police will seek charges against the man through the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for possession of a controlled substance, Detective Lt. Jeremy Christopher said.
