An Arnold Police officer stopped a 46-year-old Fenton man from riding away on a stolen motorcycle outside a gas station. The Fenton man was arrested and is facing a felony charge, authorities reported.

At about 4:30 p.m. Sept. 11, an officer saw a 2011 Kawasaki ZX2 parked outside the Phillips 66 gas station, 1919 Richardson Road, and the motorcycle had been spray-painted black and did not have a license plate. A man wearing a motorcycle helmet appeared to be startled when he came out of the convenience store and saw the officer near the motorcycle, the report said.

The officer asked the man about the missing license plate, and he allegedly said he didn’t have one and got on the motorcycle and started the engine. Since it looked like the man was getting ready to flee, the officer ran over to the motorcycle and physically restrained the man and turned off the engine, according to the report.

After arresting the man, the officer learned the motorcycle had been reported stolen in St. Louis County on May 28. The man was taken to the Police Station, where he was booked and released pending application for warrants.

Arnold Police will seek a charge against the man through the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for first-degree tampering, Cpl. Brett Ackermann said.
