Timothy Lloyd Blaney, 57, of Pevely has been indicted by a federal grand jury for alleged production of child pornography, according to the office of the U.S. Attorney Eastern District of Missouri.
A spokesman for the office said the indictment was handed down Sept. 3, and Blaney was in federal custody.
According to court documents, between Oct. 1, 2019 and Aug. 14, 2020, Blaney sexually abused a 4-year old girl and produced visual depictions of the abuse.
Blaney was acquainted with the child’s family, U.S. attorney representative said in a written statement.
Pevely Police Chief Alan Eickhoff previously reported that Blaney was charged in the case on Aug. 21, although Blaney was not taken into custody until Aug. 25. He was apprehended in the Arnold area and later transferred to federal custody.
Eickhoff said the investigation began after the 4-year-old girl’s father told Pevely Police about the photographs Blaney allegedly had taken.
Authorities reportedly found nude photos of the girl on the suspect’s phone, Pevely Police reported.
If convicted, Blaney faces 15 years to life in prison and/or a fine of no more than $250,000, Jensen said.
Authorities are asking the public’s help to identify other possible victims.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the St. Louis Federal Bureau of Investigation at 314-589-2500.
“The majority of child sex abuse is perpetrated by individuals known to the victim or the victim’s family,” Richard Quinn, special agent in charge of the FBI St. Louis Division, said in the written statement. “In this instance, the young victim fortunately knew to tell her parents what happened. This highlights the importance of parents engaging early with their children about appropriate boundaries.”
The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Pevely Police Department investigated this case.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Jillian Anderson is handling the case.
