A 60-year-old Eureka woman’s purse reportedly was stolen from her apartment after she left the back door slightly open. The woman said there was $585 in the purse, and her credit card was used at a gas station in Sauget, Ill., police reported.
The woman called the police at about 9:10 a.m. March 29 to report the burglary. She said she had come home at about 4:30 p.m. March 28 and left her purse on a kitchen chair, the report said.
The woman said she went to bed just before midnight, and when she woke up at 7 a.m., she saw her purse was gone. She said she received alerts that her credit card had been used overnight, according to the report.
The officer wrote in his report that there were no signs of forced entry, and even though it had rained during the overnight hours, there were no signs of mud being tracked into the apartment. He also wrote that there were lights strung on the patio outside the back door, and none of the lights or anything else in the apartment appeared to be disturbed.
As of April 15, none of the stolen items or money had been recovered, and no suspects had been identified, Chief Michael Werges said. He asks anyone with information about the burglary to call the Eureka Police at 636-938-6600.
