A 37-year-old Eureka woman was arrested for suspicion of driving while under the influence after she was found in a car with the engine running on the parking lot of the Circle K gas station, 100 Old Towne Drive. The incident happened about 7:10 a.m. Jan. 14, Eureka Police reported.
Officers were called to the gas station after customers notified them about a woman who was struggling to maintain her balance in the parking lot. When officers arrived, they found a 2015 Ford parked in a no-parking zone in the gas station’s lot, the report said.
A woman was in the car, but she did not immediately acknowledge the officers’ presence when they first knocked on the car’s window. When she eventually got out of the car, she allegedly struggled to maintain her balance, had an odor of alcohol on her breath and couldn’t identify herself or produce identification, according to the report.
After she allegedly failed a field sobriety test, the woman was arrested and transported to the Police Station. She also was taken to SSM Health St. Clare Hospital in Fenton for a blood sample, the report said
The woman was later released to a sober driver with a summons to appear in Eureka Municipal Court for DWI, Chief Michael Wiegand said.
As of Jan. 18, Wiegand said police were awaiting the results of the blood test.
