A 28-year-old Dittmer man, a persistent offender, is facing felony charges for suspicion of driving while intoxicated. At 2:31 a.m. Sept. 6, Eureka Police pulled over a 2004 GMC pickup the man was driving after initially spotting the truck parked on the Moto Mart parking lot at 5695 Fox Creek Road with its front tire over the curb, a report said.
After that, the man allegedly backed out of the spot, drove around the building, pulled onto Six Flags Road and momentarily parked on the shoulder. Then, the man began to drive east on Six Flags Road before turning onto West Fifth Street, where he again turned around to travel east on the road, according to the report.
While traveling on West Fifth Street, the man allegedly drove onto the shoulder before driving onto grass, and after the driver returned to the shoulder, he crossed into the westbound lane of Fifth Street before being pulled over, the report said.
The Eureka Police officer said the driver had watery, bloodshot eyes, and after he allegedly failed a field sobriety test and refused to submit to a breathalyzer test, he was arrested and transported to the Eureka Police station where he was booked and then released to a family member, the report said.
During the booking process, officers discovered the man had several prior DWI charges in Missouri, so Eureka Police will seek felony charges against him through the St. Louis County Prosecutor’s Office.
