Eureka Police are investigating the theft of more than $8,400 worth of cash and other items from a pickup and trailer parked outside the Super 8 hotel, 1733 W. 5th St. The items belonged to JV Tree and Landscaping, police reported.

The theft happened between about 8 p.m. April 5 and 7 a.m. April 6, after a 46-year-old Squaw Lake, Minn., man parked a 2018 Dodge Ram, which was hauling a trailer, in the motel’s parking lot. He was staying at the motel as a guest, the report said.

The windows on the driver’s side of the pickup were broken out, and a hatch on the trailer was cut. A bank envelope with $800 in cash was stolen from the pickup, as was a leather jacket, duffle bag, business files, impact driver, two batteries and two key rings with five to 10 keys on each ring, the report said

In addition, a Wacker Neuson compactor, a mini cutting torch along with its hoses, tanks and hood, were stolen from the trailer. Altogether, the stolen items are valued at $8,477, according to the report.

As of April 8, none of the stolen items had been recovered, and there were no suspects, Capt. David Wilson said. Anyone with information about the incident should call Eureka Police at 636-938-6600.
