Eureka Police are trying to identify a man allegedly seen in surveillance video breaking into the Phillips 66 gas station, 301 W. Fifth St., and stealing money after damaging two electronic gambling machines. The man was in the gas station for approximately 40 seconds, police reported.

Officers were called at about 4:20 a.m. June 20 to the gas station when an alarm went off. When they arrived, officers saw the front glass door had been shattered and the gambling machines had been forced open, the report said.

The approximate cost to repair the door and machines and amount of money stolen from the machines was $1,185, according to the report.

Surveillance video allegedly showed man use a hammer-style tool to break the front door and pry open the machines. The man put the money into a black backpack and left, the report said.

The man appeared to be between 5-foot, 9-inches and 6-feet, 4-inches tall, weighing between 200 to 240 pounds. The man’s head was covered by a burka that had a single opening around his eyes. He was wearing a black long-sleeved shirt, blue jeans, dark black shoes and gray gloves, according to the report.

As of June 28, none of the money had been recovered, and the man had not been identified, Capt. Michael Werges said. He asks anyone with information about the burglary to call Eureka Police at 636-938-6600.
