Eureka Police officers and firefighters responded to a call about a suspected heroin overdose at about 2:37 p.m. March 17 at Fantastic Sams Cut and Color, 249 Fifth St.
The police and firefighters arrived at the salon to find a 32-year-old Pacific man unconscious and not breathing, Eureka Police Lt. David Wilson said.
Fantastic Sams employees were performing CPR before emergency medical personnel arrived, and once paramedics were on the scene, they administered Narcan, a nasal form of naloxone for the emergency treatment of a known or suspected opioid overdose, Wilson said.
“He was given that and moments later, it reversed the effects of the suspected overdose and he refused to go to the hospital,” Wilson said.
Wilson said the male was not arrested since no drugs or drug paraphernalia were found at the scene.
“He didn’t have anything with him,” Wilson said. “He had an associate there with him who said he is a heroin user. We couldn’t locate anything.”
