Eureka Police arrested a 33-year-old Maryland Heights man for suspicion of driving while intoxicated. The man was allegedly asleep in a running car outside of the Circle K gas station, 18181 Old Hwy. 66, police reported.

A gas station employee at about 3:30 a.m. Aug. 9 called police after seeing the man sleeping in a 2006 Subaru WRX. When police arrived, an officer woke the man up, and when he rolled down the window, officers allegedly smelled alcohol and marijuana, the report said.

The man allegedly told officers he had been to a St. Louis bar and didn’t know that he was in Eureka. He also allegedly said he drank a Manhattan and Red Bull and Vodka mix drink, according to the report.

The man refused to perform field sobriety tests and was arrested. He was taken to the Police Station, where he was booked and released to a sober driver, the report said.

The man was issued a summons to appear in Eureka Municipal Court for alleged DWI, Lt. Brett Grittini said.
