Eureka Police arrested a 19-year-old Florissant man for alleged drug possession with the intent to distribute. Officers stopped the man because the 2020 Chevrolet Malibu that he was driving was flagged by the Flock license-plate camera system for leaving the scene of an accident in St. Louis County, police reported.

At about 4:30 p.m. Oct. 20, officers saw the man driving the Malibu west on West Fifth Street. The officers stopped the car when it turned onto Meramec Boulevard, the report said.

Before arresting the man, the officers told him they could smell burnt marijuana in the car and asked if he had marijuana in the Malibu. The man allegedly said he did not have any marijuana, the report said.

The man also said he did not have a driver’s license. Officers learned that he did have a valid driver’s license and arrested the man, according to the report.

An officer searched the car, and he allegedly found two iPhones and four bags with a green-leafy substance inside them in a backpack. The bags with the substance weighed about 8 ounces each, the report said.

The man allegedly told the officers the substances were marijuana, which he had for personal use. He also said there were two cell phones in the car because everyone has two cell phones, according to the report.

The man was taken to the Police Station, where he allegedly told police he was in Eureka for two different reasons. He allegedly first said he came to Eureka to meet a girl at Six Flags, which is now called Mid America Adventure by Enchanted Parks, but when he was told the amusement park was only open on weekends, he said he planned to meet a girl at Walmart, the report said.

When he was asked if he was going to meet someone to sell the marijuana, he allegedly wouldn’t look at the officer and did not answer, according to the report.

The man was booked and released pending the application for a warrant, the report said.

Depending on results of the drug analysis, Eureka Police will seek charges against the man through the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for possession of a controlled substance and distribution of a controlled substance, Lt. Brett Grittini said.

He also was issued summons to appear in Eureka Municipal Court for driving without a license and possession of marijuana by someone younger than 21, Grittini said.
