Robert Van Johnson II, 45, of Eureka has been charged with a felony for allegedly stealing $1,545.94 worth of merchandise from the Eureka Walmart. The alleged theft happened about 6 p.m. June 18, the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office reported.
Johnson was charged June 19 with stealing $750 or more, a class D felony punishable by up to seven years in prison, the report said.
Eureka Police were called to Walmart, 131 Eureka Towne Center Drive, after Johnson allegedly filled a cart with merchandise and left the store without paying for the items. When officers arrived, Johnson allegedly was loading the stolen merchandise into a vehicle, the probable-cause statement in the case said.
Initially, Johnson allegedly told police he had receipts for the purchases. Later, however, he reportedly admitted to stealing the items.
