A 54-year-old Eureka man was arrested for suspicion of driving while intoxicated after he was seen acting strangely outside a gas station. The incident occurred about 6 p.m. Sept. 29 at the Moto Mart gas station, 5695 Fox Creek Road, Eureka Police reported.

Police were called to the gas station after an employee reported the man acted suspiciously while putting gas in a 2015 Chevrolet Camaro. An officer arrived and saw the Camaro leave the gas station’s parking lot, the report said.

The officer followed the Camaro and stopped the car in a parking lot off Fifth Street. The officer allegedly smelled alcohol coming from the car, and the driver appeared intoxicated, according to the report.

The suspect reportedly made a suicidal statement and was transported to SSM Health St. Clare Hospital in Fenton, the report said.

Eureka Police will seek a charge against the man through the Eureka Municipal Court for DWI, Lt. Michael Werges said.
