A 33-year-old Eureka man was arrested for allegedly driving while intoxicated after the Jeep he was driving was seen swerving on Hwy. 109. The man is a prior offender who was convicted of at least one prior DWI offense, Eureka Police said.

At about 6:30 p.m. April 9, an officer saw a 1999 Jeep Wrangler traveling north on Hwy. 109. The officer knew the registered owner’s driver’s license was revoked, and the man was wanted by Eureka Police on several warrants, the report said.

The Jeep allegedly swerved on the highway several times, and the officer stopped it near Fifth Street. The man told the officer he was aware his license had been revoked and that he was wanted on several warrants, according to the report.

The man also told the officer he drank at least eight beers. Because the man struggled to maintain his balance, the officer did not perform field sobriety tests and instead arrested him, the report said.

The man was taken to the Police Station, where he was booked, posted bond for the warrants and was released to a sober driver pending the application for charges, according to the report.

Eureka Police will seek a charge against the man through the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for DWI as a prior offender, Capt. Michael Werges said.
