A dumpster fire spread to the upper level of a house in the 900 block of Legends View Drive in Eureka on Saturday, June 24. The home was significantly damaged, the Eureka Fire Protection District reported.
The fire district received calls about the fire at 7 p.m. and remained on the scene until 11:15 p.m., said Eureka Fire Deputy Chief William Stamberger.
He said the fire began in the dumpster sitting on the home’s driveway. The home was undergoing renovations and no one was there at the time of the fire.
“Something caught fire in the dumpster,” Stamberger said. “It could have been a battery or something that overheated, such as demolition materials.”
Stamberger said the house has extensive damage to the upper level and roof, but it is not a complete loss.
He said 11 pieces of equipment from the fire district were dedicated to battling the blaze.
