Eureka High School students, faculty and staff were temporarily evacuated from the building today, March 1, after an overheated HVAC motor on the roof caused smoke to fill the band room.
According to district officials, at approximately 9:05 a.m., staff members saw and smelled smoke in the band room, leading school administrators to pull the fire alarms.
The building was evacuated while Eureka Fire Protection District officials investigated the scene.
Rockwood Communications Coordinator David Morrison said no one was injured because of the smoke, and the school day resumed about 30 minutes after evacuation.
“The only thing that’s affected is the band room right now, which is closed for the rest of the day,” Morrison said.
