Eureka Police contacted the St. Louis County Bomb and Arson squad to investigate a recent fire that destroyed about $135,000 worth of heavy machinery at Gershenson Construction Co. The Bomb and Arson Squad was asked to investigate because of the value of the equipment that was destroyed, but it turned out the fire did not appear suspicious, Eureka Police Lt. Michael Werges said.

However, the exact cause of the fire had not been determined of March 11, he said.

An officer was called at about 1:35 a.m. to the construction company because of the fire. The company’s address is 2 Truitt Drive, but the construction equipment was stored on a nearby lot at 96 S. Central Drive, which is separated from the business by railroad tracks, the report said.

The asphalt vibrating compactor was worth about $85,000, and the Ingersoll-Rand asphalt roller was valued at about $50,000, the report said.
