A fire in a modular home west of Festus has displaced a family of three until repairs can be made to their home.
At 4:05 p.m. Dec. 29, the Hematite Fire Protection District received a call about smoke in the home at 1336 Sunset Pointe Drive, just west of Festus.
When firefighters arrived and opened the front door, the house was full of smoke, Fire Chief Robert Hipes said.
“There was a small fire in the master bath and outside the home that had to do with the electrical service,” Hipes said.
He said firefighters extinguished the fire in about 15 minutes and were back in service at about 5:35 p.m.
There was moderate damage to the home from smoke and fire, and the family cannot return until the damage is addressed, Hipes said.
“It (the house) was not livable, but structurally it was sound,” he said.
Firefighters from the De Soto Rural, R-7 and Mapaville fire protection districts and the Festus Fire Department assisted with the call, and firefighters from the Crystal City Fire Department moved up into Hematite’s district.
