De Soto Rural firefighters respond to two recent fires

A fire destroyed a vehicle and damaged a home, garage and horse trailer on Walker Trail.

De Soto Rural firefighters recently responded to two fires near De Soto.

The first fire destroyed a vehicle and damaged a garage and horse trailer south of De Soto, De Soto Rural Fire Chief Tom Fitzgerald said.

He said firefighters responded at 10:52 p.m. Dec. 3 to a vehicle fire that had spread to a garage in the 300 block of Walker Trail. He said they were able to quickly extinguish the fire and limit damage to the attached house.

Fitzgerald said the home is still inhabitable.

Firefighters remained on the scene for an hour. No injuries were reported.

The De Soto Fire Department and Hillsboro and Potosi fire protection districts assisted with the fire. Valle Ambulance District also responded. The Jefferson R-7, Hematite and St. Clair fire protection districts helped with other calls.

A fire caused minor damage to a house in the 6200 block of Hwy. H west of De Soto on Dec. 7, Fitzgerald said. Firefighters responded at 6:18 p.m.

He said damage from a flue fire was limited to the attic and flue chase, and the home is still inhabitable. No injuries were reported.

Firefighters remained on the scene until 8:46 p.m. The De Soto Fire Department, Hillsboro and St. Clair fire protection districts assisted with the fire. Valle Ambulance District also responded. The Jefferson R-7, Hematite, High Ridge and Mapaville fire protection districts helped with other calls.
