The De Soto Police Department is investigating a fight between a 41-year-old man and a 54-year-old man who allegedly displayed a firearm during the dispute. Both men were from De Soto, according to Capt. Jeffery Wynn.

Wynn said officers were dispatched at about 7 p.m. July 19 to a fight in progress in the 500 block of Donna Drive. While responding, officers were told a gunshot was heard.

“When they arrived, they observed the 41-year-old victim holding down the 54-year-old suspect,” Wynn said.

He said the younger man reported he was going to a neighbor’s house to see his child and the older man began yelling at him and removed a firearm from his waistband during the argument.

“(The younger man) exited the vehicle and grabbed the (the other man’s) firearm,” Wynn said. “One round discharged. Neither subject was struck.”

He said the older man was transported by Valle Ambulance District to a St. Louis hospital for injuries to his head and face. Because he was injured, he was not arrested at the time.

“The investigation is still ongoing,” Wynn said, adding that the report will be handed over to the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.

He said the younger man, who had no obvious injuries, appeared to have been defending himself.

“The firearm was located and seized,” Wynn said.
