A fire on Monday morning (Oct. 19) likely totaled a mobile home in the 4500 block of Hwy. 110 north of De Soto, said Tom Fitzgerald, chief of the De Soto Rural Fire Protection District.
A man was in the home, noticed the fire and got out uninjured, Fitzgerald said.
The fire district got a call at 9:49 a.m. about the blaze, he said.
“It was burning when we arrived,” Fitzgerald said. “It was a single-wide trailer home with an addition.
“There is considerable damage. The fire started under the home and came up through the bathroom area. There was a lot of smoke and fire damage. It’s probably going to be totaled.”
Fitzgerald said heat tape – a type of electrical heater cord – appears to be where the fire started.
He said some of the man’s family members arrived at the scene to help.
“He’s staying with them, is my assumption,” Fitzgerald said.
The De Soto Fire Department and the Hillsboro Fire Protection District helped with the call, and the Valle Ambulance District responded to the scene as well.
Firefighters remained on the scene for about two and a half hours, Fitzgerald said.
