A 36-year-old Cuba man was arrested for alleged possession of methamphetamine and heroin outside a Eureka Walgreens store. Eureka Police were called to the store, 250 E. Fourth St., because the man appeared to be unconscious in a car that was running and parked across multiple parking spots, police reported.
The man was arrested at about 8:05 a.m. April 15, after officers found him in a 2000 Infiniti G20. He appeared to be asleep in the car, and he allegedly told police he needed to leave to get to work, the report said.
An officer allegedly saw a glass smoking pipe on the passenger-side seat, but after the officer returned to his cruiser to check the suspect’s license and then went back to the suspect’s car, the pipe was gone. When the officer asked the driver about the pipe, the man allegedly said he used it to smoke marijuana, according to the report.
The officer searched the car and allegedly found a container between the driver-side seat and center console that contained a clear crystal-like substance that looked like meth, as well as three smoking pipes and two red straws. The officer also found a second container that had seven capsules with white powdery substances in them that appeared to be heroin, along with a green, leafy substance suspected of being marijuana, along with the pipe the officer previously saw on the passenger-side seat, the report said.
The man then allegedly failed field sobriety tests, and he was arrested and taken to the Police Station, where an officer allegedly found a capsule containing a white powdery substance in the suspect’s pocket, according to the report.
The suspect was booked and released pending application for warrants. Depending on results of the drug analysis, Eureka Police will seek charges against the man through the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for driving while under the influence of drugs, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, Lt. Michael Werges said.
