Teresa Marie Knighton, 40, of Crystal City has been accused of having illegal drugs after an officer allegedly found her with substances that tested positive for methamphetamine, fentanyl and alprazolam at a home in Festus, according to court documents.
Knighton was arrested on July 8, and as of Monday, she was being held on a $3,000 surety-bond at the Jefferson County Jail in Hillsboro, court records said.
The Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office on April 11 charged Knighton with possession of a controlled substance, a class D felony. However, the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office requested the charge be considered a class B felony, which is punishable by five to 15 years in prison since Knighton is a persistent offender, court documents show.
Knighton had been found guilty of felony drug possession in August 2012 and December 2022 in Jefferson County, according to court records.
A Festus Police officer on April 30 arrested Knighton at a home in the 600 block of Barbara Place. He allegedly found her with substances that appeared to be illegal drugs, the case’s probable-cause statement said.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol tested the substances between Jan. 29 and Feb. 6, and the substances tested positive for three illegal substances, the report said.
