Crystal City Police are investigating a video of alleged dog abuse that is making the rounds on social media.
Capt. Mike Pruneau today, July 31, said his department is aware of the video that may have taken place months ago.
“We are currently investigating,” Pruneau said. “It was brought to our attention yesterday. The video has not been verified. It may have been from five or six months ago.”
He said while the incident may have occurred months ago, the video only came to light in recent days. He said the location of the incident also still needs to be verified.
An 11:59 a.m. July 30 city of Crystal City posting on Facebook said “The Crystal City Police Department and Animal Control are aware of the animal abuse video circulating on Facebook. Our departments are actively investigating the matter and have confirmed that the subject no longer resides at the residence or in the City of Crystal City.”
The video led to outrage expressed on social media.
Pruneau said once the investigation is completed, it will be up to the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s office if and what type of charges will be filed.
