A Crystal City Police officer was punched in the face during a scuffle with a suspect he was trying to arrest, and the she suspect’s arm was broken during the struggle. The officer sustained “a slight injury to his cheek and scrapes from wrestling with the suspect,” and he was not transported to a hospital for medical treatment, Crystal City Police Capt. Mike Pruneau said.

The incident happened about 11:45 p.m. Sept. 16 at The Office Bar & Grill, 119 Mississippi Ave., in Crystal City, Pruneau said.

He said the suspect is a 27-year-old Crystal City man.

“We got a call of a man acting irrational at The Office,” Pruneau said. “When officers got there and confronted (the suspect), he became uncooperative. Before that, a woman said (the suspect) had tried to get into her car. When officers went to advise him he was under arrest, he started fighting. He punched an officer in the face.

“At some point during the altercation, the suspect ended up with a broken arm. He was transported to (Mercy Hospital Jefferson in Crystal City).”

Joachim-Plattin Ambulance took the suspect to the hospital, Pruneau added.

He said the suspect was released pending application for warrants, and Crystal City Police will seek charges against the man for second-degree assault.
