Someone recently stole copper wire from a cellular tower site in the 11000 block of Hwy. CC in Festus, Festus Police Chief Tim Lewis said.
The theft was reported about 9 a.m. June 28, he said.
Lewis said “several feet” of copper wire reportedly was stolen, and because of the great weight of the wire, police suspect more than one person was involved.
“The fence surrounding the tower was cut,” he said. “They cut off the wire inside the fence. You’d need a couple of guys to carry out something like this.”
The wire was valued at between $5,000 and $10,000, Lewis said.
Anyone with information is urged to call the Festus Police at 636-937-3646.
