Festus Police are looking for a man who allegedly assaulted a Wee Care Learning Center employee Wednesday morning (Oct. 16). The incident happened about 6:15 a.m., Capt. Doug Wendel said.
The victim, a 58-year-old woman from the Festus area, told police she had parked her car at the American Legion Post 253 parking lot, 849 American Legion Drive, in Festus and was walking to the nearby childcare center at 821 American Legion Drive when she saw a man across the street. She said she waved to the man and said, ‘Hi,” Wendel said.
Then, the man allegedly ran across the street and tackled the woman. She screamed for help, and he ran into a wooded area, Wendel said.
The woman described the alleged assailant as a white male, about 5-foot-10-inches tall. He had a beard and wore dark clothing, Wendel said.
He said police searched the wooded area near the American Legion and childcare center, but they were unable to find the man.
The woman drove herself to Mercy Hospital Jefferson in Crystal City for precautionary reasons, and she was treated and released, Wendel said.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Festus Police at 636-937-3646.
