Festus Police are investigating the recent theft of a cell phone and DVD player from an unlocked car, Chief Tim Lewis said today (Jan. 12).
The victim estimated the theft occurred between 9 p.m. Jan. 8 and 9 a.m. Jan. 9, while his 2009 Toyota Camry was parked in front of a home on North Fifth Street, the chief said.
Stolen items included an iPhone and a DVD player, together valued at about $1,300, Lewis said.
The chief said he does his best to encourage people to lock their vehicles, as well as to not leave valued possessions in them.
“We’ve had a few of these throughout the city – car clottings (break-ins),” he said. “People should always lock their vehicles. It looks like a crime of opportunity.”
Anyone with information about the theft is urged to call the Festus Police at 636-937-3646.
